Canada reduces impurity limit for mercury

On 29 February, Health Canada reduces the limit for impurity mercury from 3ppm to 1ppm in Guidance on Heavy Metal Impurities in Cosmetics as per the Minamata Convention on Mercury signed by Canada on 10 October 2013.
 
Based on the guidance, the limits of heavy metal levels in cosmetic products above the values listed are considered technically avoidable.
 
Products that exceed the limit "may undergo an assessment to determine the level of risk posed by the product, which would then determine the appropriate enforcement action".
